What is Mechatronics?

Mechatronics is an emerging field integrating the principles of mechanical and electrical engineering and computer science offering a new approach to design and development in the manufacturing industry.

Requirements

Selection requirements

  • Minimum GPA 2.8
  • For home schooled students, community college placement test
  • Math 1, Math 2 & Math 3
  • Attendance (No more than 5 absences per year)
  • Commitment of parent/guardian and student

Recommended courses

  • Physics
  • Drafting or Engineering
  • Computers (MSITA, Programming, MaWD)
  • Any Related Hands-On Courses (Automotive, Electronics, Agricultural Mechanics)

Application Process

Registration

  • Last week of October through first week of December
  • High school juniors and seniors may register
  • Notify your Guidance Counselor or Career Development Coordinator
  • Register online during the last week of October through the first week of December by filling out an interest form or register with an Career Development Coordinator or Guidance Counselor during a presentation at your school

Open House

  • You will be invited to an open house
  • Introduction to Career Accelerator Program
  • Question and answer session

Orientation

  • Assigned orientation classes
  • Four evenings at a partner company
  • Hands-on activities
  • Teamwork, collaboration and communication scenarios
  • Written exercises and evaluations

Summer Internship Program

  • Six-weeks at a partner company
  • Hands-on in depth trial period
  • Evaluations from a trainer
  • Paid 40 hour work week, including two days at Alamance Community College
  • Must meet physical requirements of job and pass substance abuse screen
